I have teaching experience in both laboratory and "lecture" settings from topics ranging from introductory biology to parasitology and disease ecology to advanced quantitative ecological statistics. I am committed to creating an inclusive teaching environment and to increasing quantitative education in biology. As part of those efforts, I turned my dissertation work into a series of easily accessible labs with strong quantitative components, and I am currently working on turning those vetted labs into TIEE articles. Please email me if you would like to use my lesson plans prior to publication.
It has been my great pleasure to mentor eight undergraduate students with independent research projects (including one honors thesis) and to work with five other undergraduates on longer term laboratory projects. My students have presented at regional and national conferences, and two students have already co-authored papers with me. (More publications are forthcoming!) Below are some photos of my amazing undergraduate students from Virginia Tech and Radford University in action.
